The observance
The Red River Valley Veterans Memorial has made the Sunday before Veterans Day its annual day of recognition in Paris. The established format brings the community together at Love Civic Center with local school bands and orchestras playing patriotic music, a welcome from a veteran, posting of the colors, an invocation, and a featured guest speaker. Past speakers have included Maj. Gen. James K. Brown and Paris Mayor Reginald Hughes, and the program has included Quilts of Valor presentations honoring local veterans.
Veterans Day itself is Wednesday, November 11, 2026. Paris Junior College has traditionally marked the day with an 11:00 AM observance at its veterans memorial, and many local businesses, schools, and civic groups hold smaller tributes throughout the week. The Red River Valley Veterans Memorial ceremony is the community-wide anchor for the weekend.
Plan to attend
The ceremony is free and open to the public, and seating typically fills as the program start approaches. Because the 2026 speaker lineup and exact program times are finalized by the memorial's board closer to the date, check the Red River Valley Veterans Memorial website or Facebook page in the days before November 8 for the final schedule.
