US 271 Widening Gains $29.3M in FY 2026 Construction Funding

4 min read

Programmed money is the clearest sign a highway project is real, and the US 271 widening now has about $29.3 million in FY 2026 construction funding behind it.

TxDOT's Paris District Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) programs roughly $29.3 million in FY 2026 construction funding for segment CSJ 0221-02-028 of the US 271 widening, the section in Red River County around Deport and Bogata. The funding is the latest milestone in the broader project that widens US 271 from Loop 286 in Paris to SH 37 in Bogata, about 20.6 miles in Lamar and Red River counties, from a two-lane highway to a four-lane divided corridor.

The project's draft environmental assessment was released in fall 2024 and its environmental review and permitting have since been completed, clearing the way for construction lettings. With FY 2026 money programmed, construction activity on US 271 south of Paris, including lane closures and detours, is the most likely near-term traffic impact in the Paris area.

Why highway funding matters to property values

Four-lane divided highways change the economics of every property near them. They cut travel time to regional employment and shopping, reduce crash risk, and make a corridor more attractive to logistics, manufacturing, and retail users that measure their market by drive time. The US 271 project ties Paris more tightly to Bogata, Deport, and the Red River County economy, and it strengthens the case for the whole Lamar County corridor.

The widening also pairs with the other big corridor investments in motion: the Loop 286 improvement project inside Paris and the proposed US 82 West widening from the Fannin County line. Together they describe a region spending deliberately on the roads that carry its growth.

The read for 1905 E Price St

For the property at 1905 E Price St, regional highway investment supports the demand side of the investment case: better roads widen the labor pool, the customer base, and the logistics reach of any business that operates from the building. The property's dual road frontage and central location make it a direct beneficiary of corridor improvements that bring more traffic and more tenants to the area.
